Complete visa information for Indian passport holders
Indian passport holders should obtain the current Sri Lanka electronic travel authorisation/e-Visa required for their travel date.
Since 25 May 2026, Sri Lanka has offered Indian travellers a free tourist Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). The visa fee is waived, but the ETA itself is still required: every traveller must apply online and receive the ETA before arriving. It allows a stay of up to 30 days, with up to two entries during its validity, counted from your first arrival. Stays longer than 30 days need an extension, which is paid.
Sri Lanka has changed its visa rules several times in recent years, so check that the free ETA still applies for your travel date before booking. Only use the official ETA website or an agent you trust; many look-alike websites charge high fees for a free authorisation.
Colombo is a short flight from Hyderabad and Chennai, which makes Sri Lanka popular for long weekends, family holidays and Ramayana-trail tours to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella. Carry a return ticket, hotel bookings and enough funds for your stay, as immigration can ask to see them.
