Complete visa information for Indian passport holders
Indian passport holders generally apply online for an Australian Visitor visa; the grant is electronic rather than a physical sticker.
Indian passport holders require an Australian Visitor visa before travel; although lodged online and granted electronically, it belongs in the pre-travel visa category.
Indian passport holders apply for an Australian Visitor visa (subclass 600) online through ImmiAccount before travel. Although it's granted electronically, with nothing stamped in your passport, it is a full pre-travel visa, and you may be asked to give biometrics at a visa application centre. Depending on your purpose and history, a grant can allow stays of three, six or twelve months.
Processing times vary by case, so apply well ahead of your travel date, especially for school-holiday and year-end trips. The application charge changes from time to time; we confirm the current amount from the Department of Home Affairs when you apply.
The most common trips from Hyderabad are parents visiting children who study or work in Australia, and family holidays to Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. For family visits, include an invitation letter, your host's visa or citizenship status and their address. Australia also requires a genuine temporary stay, so show your ties to India: employment or business, family and property. If your visa is granted, check its conditions carefully, as some don't allow a further stay to be applied for from inside Australia.
